ordered a new chair

The last few days my chair (behind my desk @ home) has been acting strange. It's been squeaking for the last few months but today it made a very funny noise next to that, so I turned my chair upside down to check. And what I saw didn't make me happy; it has a crack in the thing that keeps the feet with the seat together..... and the crack is getting bigger.... So I decided it's time for me to get a new chair, so I looked online for one and I ordered one :) Hopefully my old chair will make it till the new one arrives :)
---
update: new one will be here on wednesday! :)

---
update: didn't arrive on wednesday, not even on friday as they promissed, so I went to the Makro on friday evening to get one, and on saturday the online ordered chair arrived but I have send it back :))

stormmmmmmmmmm

Today we had a storm here in the Netherlands (and other parts of Western Europe also). They say it was 12 years ago that we had such a bad storm, and I still remember that day, being stuck at the train station in Antwerp for hours and hours until we were able to get to Roosendaal by a boemeltrein (don’t ask me what that is in English :). But today’s storm didn’t end so well for a few people: In the eastern Dutch town of Enschede a man died from being hit by a tree, while a 77-year-old man lost his footing and died when he fell into a fence in the town of Hilversum. Another person is feared dead after being swept into the sea near Scheveningen, The Hague. Also the roof of the Amsterdam Centraal Station building partly collapsed.
Its 22.00 hr now and it seems that the storm is calming down.....

Six Flags

Today it was Six Flags day. We arrived at the park around noon. It was cold and dry and not that busy. The rides are excellent :) But it’s not the same as Six Flags in the States, or like any of these kinds of parks in the States. Every time I go to a park here in Holland, I am surprised by the amount of filth lying around and not being cleaned up. Tables full with half eaten burgers and cold fries that lay there for at least an hour till someone of the staff decides to clean it up........
Still it was a good day :) thx to Patrick, Bianca and TW.
Soon there will be some pictures online.

clothes shopping

Last friday I planned a trip to a store in Nunspeet.
You might wonder.... why Nunspeet? What is there? Well there is a store there that is specialized in clothes for the bigger women :) Its called Mode Royal (the don't deserve to be linked here). And I need some clothes because I have 4 party's ahead (christmas and new years eve not included). They have a lot of my favorite brands (Exelle, Make my Day, Head over Heals). They have a nice site telling you what brands they have, and how big their store is AND that they are open on friday evenings. So we got in the car, had a few traffic jams but we made it over there around 7 pm, and found a nice spot to park the car. Walked over to the store and guess what? There was this little written note on the door that said, we are closed on friday evening from october till march!!!
AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHHHH 150 km for nothing!!!!!!!!
How much trouble is it to adjust your website? So on saturday I went to XLZone in Roosendaal. They also sell most of my favorite brands clothing. Got some nice clothes there. And their service is great, friendly lady who owns that store, and their website is up to date :))

the government collapsed

The (Dutch) government has collapsed after 87 days in office amid disagreements in the three-party coalition and feuding within the party of murdered maverick Pim Fortuyn.
Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende made the announcement in parliament on Wednesday following the resignations of the health and economics ministers -- both members of the novice Pim Fortuyn List (LPF). Wednesday's collapse of the Dutch coalition makes it the shortest-lived government in the Netherlands since World War II. In his announcement to the parliament, Balkenende said: "There is no basis for further fruitful and sustainable co-operation within the coalition. I intend to go to Her Majesty the Queen and offer the resignation of the remaining ministers and junior ministers." The next likely step will be the appointment of a caretaker government until new elections can be held in a minimum of three months' time.
Earlier on Wednesday, Eduard Bomhoff, health minister and vice prime minister, told a news conference he had written to Queen Beatrix asking to be relieved of his duties immediately. Economic Affairs Minister Herman Heinsbroek also resigned. The pair have been at the centre of a dispute over the party's leadership since Fortuyn was murdered shortly before May elections. The LPF chose former party leader Mat Herben to return to the helm on Wednesday in an unsuccessful attempt to keep the government from collapsing. The Cabinet met in crisis session on Tuesday before breaking off. Struggle for leadership of Fortuyn's party brings down the government Herben had urged either Heinsbroek or Bomhoff to quit to save the government. The LPF, which took second place in the May vote, was part of a three-way coalition with Balkenende's conservative Christian Democrats (CDA) and the liberal VVD. The VVD had called on the government to quit. "I want elections as soon as possible. ...The most natural formula is that the cabinet resigns and we have elections this year," VVD leader Gerrit Zalm told reporters after meeting with Balkenende and Herben. Zalm said the LPF "is no longer a partner we can trust, and we want new elections, preferably as soon as possible. It's gone far enough with all this bickering. It's time to let the people speak." Herben said: "The Cabinet cannot continue in its current form." Asked if the game was over, he said, "Yes, it's played out." Bomhoff and Heinsbroek, the two feuding LPF ministers, stopped talking this week and were reportedly only communicating through mediators. Balkenende said on Tuesday night that his patience with the LPF had run out: "When it reaches the point where two people can't walk through the same door, then it can't continue, because it distracts attention from our true business." Herben returned to the party's helm in an effort to save the government. Herben inherited the LPF mantle after Fortuyn's murder, but he quit in August. He was replaced by Harry Wijnschenk, who was ousted on Wednesday in favour of Herben's return. The LPF won 26 seats in the 150-member parliament in May elections, but recent opinion polls show the party has lost more than two-thirds of its support as the public has become disillusioned with its leadership struggle. Polls indicate the CDA and VVD would both gain seats in a new election, possibly enough to form a majority coalition without the LPF.
The last government resigned in April following a report detailing the Netherlands' role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia.

Prince Claus buried in Delft

Prince Claus, the husband of Queen Beatrix, has been buried in the 400-year-old crypt of the Dutch royal family in the medieval city of Delft. Claus, who charmed his adopted country with an irreverent wit and was credited with helping mend wartime wounds between his native Germany and The Netherlands, died of pneumonia and Parkinson's disease on October 6 at the age of 76. Tens of thousands of people had stood along the streets of the city to catch a glimpse of the horse-drawn hearse that brought the prince's coffin from the North End Palace in The Hague to the crypt of the House of Orange, the Dutch monarchy, in Nieuwe Kerk. European royals from across Europe, Japan and Jordan attended the service. The prince's three sons -- Prince Johan Friso, Prince Constantijn and Crown Prince Willem Alexander -- earlier accompanied the procession, and were joined by their mother, Queen Beatrix and the Princesses Maxima and Laurentien. The family tomb in Delft houses the remains of 43 other members of the House of Orange, beginning with the dynasty's founder known as William the Silent, who was assassinated in 1584. Claus' tomb is next to that of Queen Wilhelmina, Beatrix's grandmother who ruled the Netherlands for 50 years until she abdicated in 1948. It was the first funeral in the royal family since Wilhelmina died 40 years ago and only the fifth in the last 112 years. Beatrix's father, Prince Bernhard, 90, was attending the funeral. Her mother, the former Queen Juliana who is 92, is under constant medical care and has not appeared in public for years.

big girl clothes shopping

As I have 2 wedding party's ahead that I have to attend, I really need some new nice clothes. It's also a very good excuse to go clothes shopping :))
There are only a few stores in Holland where I can really find nice clothes since clothes. One is in Amsterdam and that is Mateloos . They sell clothes for girls/women who are *big* (and beautiful :) as I am. Finally I can shop and try on without being scared if it will even fit. I didn’t find something nice for the weddings, but I got some nice trousers (big, skaters look) and a nice long/big black top. At least I have a good excuse to go shopping again there or going to another big size store who sells my favorite brands (Exelle and Make My Day).
One negative site to all this, its expensive...... but the clothes are really nice :)

vga card shopping

The last week I've been trying to find a good vga card for my 2nd windows computer (the one I do a lot of html on and editing stuff). I tried a Hercules 4000 last weekend which really sucked so I did send it back to the store and got my money back. Yesterday I bought a Geforce 4 MX 440, which I thought would be a good one, reading some reviews about it. Well it’s better with the resolution but the display was really bad, the letters were kind of fat and dancing at 1600 x 1200 / 85 Hertz. That one is also going back to the store.
Finally I got a vga card today which is going to stay. It’s the Hercules (ati radeon) 9000 with 128 MB (AGP). The sales dude in the store where I got this card was doing his best to help me. Asking me stupid questions :) If that card wasn’t overkill for me, he had another good one, cheaper but also good.... it was the Geforce 4 MX440. So I told NO, I've tried that one, it sucks :) Well did you install the right drivers then, he asked, YEAH I got the newest from the internet. But I want a card that does it well with high resolution SIR. Cause I don’t work smaller then 1600 x 1200 on my 21" screen!!!! Back at the counter while I was paying for this card, he asked me if I realized it was AGP and if my computer had AGP. *Sigh*, YES it has dear sales dude, and yes I do know the difference, cause I work with computers every day and I think I know more about them then you do! :) Some other people in the store who heard this started laughing. Good thing was that he could laugh about it, and said that it was not common for him that people especially female have knowledge about this stuff when they come and buy it. Well I do and I am really happy with this card.

the Osbournes

It took a while before I saw an episode of the Osbournes. But I liked it, its fun to watch a chaotic family like that, the things they do, wear, say........ I almost feel like a normal person compared to them. Cause I am so impatient to wait till a week goes by for till a new episode will be aired I downloaded all the episodes from the internet (sorry MTV) and now I am burning them on cd (vcd format for the DVD player :). So now I have something to watch for the next couple of nights :))

Jeepers Creepers

Tonight we watched the DVD Jeepers Creepers which we bought earlier this week. It's a very very good story, but the movie wasn't really that great, it was just okay. There are a lot of extras on the DVD which makes it better :)

car troubles

AAARRGGH!
As you may have read on the info page about me, I have my own car. It’s a fine car, it’s my car for a bit more then one and a half year and it’s been doing a great job for that period of time.... Untill today :( I don’t use it that often but today I needed my car to go to the physiotherapist. So about half an hour ago I got into my car, put the key in and turned around to start it. Guess what...... nothing happened except for a little low slow noise.... I think the battery is dead or it’s the start-motor or something like that.
Now I am waiting for the ANWB (a Dutch car-trouble service).
--
Update @ 17.45 :
It was the battery that was dead and couldn't be fixed by the ANWB. So I had to get my car a new battery and that was done very quick, thx to the good service of the garage nearby.

Minoes

Tonight I saw the movie Minoes. It's a family/kids movie by Vincent Bal and it is based on a best-selling children's novel in the Netherlands from the Dutch (deceased) writer Annie MG Schmidt. The movie is about a cat (Minoes) who turned into a pretty and smart girl who rescues with her cat friends the news reporter of the local village paper. Why did I watch a kid’s movie? Because I read the book Minoes when I was a kid :) (and a lot of other books by Annie MG Schmidt).
